Washington DC - The Morning of Day 1

I have a good life.

My morning routine consists of :
waking up with hubby,
coffee,
 watching some news,
getting ready for work,
feeding the dogs while hubby feeds the horses,
 kissing goodbye,
driving 30 miles past fields and orchards passing various types of slow-driving farm equipment,
working all day

My morning routine does not usually consist of:
having a whole hotel room to myself to get ready in while listening to TRAFFIC outside my window,
checking in with the blogs in my jammies (we don't have wireless at home)
sitting in Starbucks with a SFSKCRL grande latte and a pumpkin cream cheese muffin
watching taxi's and people crossing crosswalks
plotting out my day to do ANYTHING I want to do
contemplating flagging a taxi to take me to a knitting shop (I need some more yarn)
knowing the White House is just a few blocks down the street

Which has me wondering, does the president and first lady ever get to leave that White House?  Can they run to Starbucks or go shopping?  If Laura needs some yarn or wants to see what's new at Target, can she just go?   I haven't noticed any secret service or anything around here.    I'm thinking that for all the glamour and notoriety, they probably have a very lonely lifestyle.
Poor things.

I'm sure I have a much better deal.

I'd be willing to bet, Laura and George are counting the days until they can head home to Texas. I wouldn't trade my life for hers in a million years. Somehow, I doubt she can just run out and get yarn.

You sound excited. What fun this trip is for you!

I'm so glad you're sharing your trip on your blog. I'm living vicariously through you! I would love to go back to DC by myself and take in all the sites.

Your trip sounds great so far, and what a great life you get to go home to when it's done.

I agree with Barb above. Their lives are probably more exciting, but yours is more inviting.

We were in Kennebunkport, Maine a couple of years ago and ran into Barbara Bush on her way to lunch with friends. She had a driver and a SS guy with her.

And while she was lunching and shopping, 41 had his SS guys readying their boat for a fishing trip. They in their boat, he is his boat. It was quite exciting, but not nearly as relaxing as you have for sure.

Enjoy your fun. I love DC so much. Somehow taking the Metro along with the Pentagon officials and statemen on their way to work just seems so ... cosmopolitan or something.

Starbucks, a muffin and tons of things to choose from to do; you're going to have so much fun! I'm glad you're sharing it with us! I love DC.
Can you imagine never getting to go to Target and just roam around.

Robin, I found your blog through a comment you left on my Friday's Fave 5 post. I had to come check you out, naturally. ;-) I really like your blog. I've spent the last several minutes reading about your new grandbaby, both your grandchildren, your family, and your fear of flying (I can identify with that one!). I'll be back! :-)
